Currently, confronted with the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation of people “returning to poverty due to illnesses, accidents and disasters” is not optimistic. While preventing and controlling the pandemic, China Continent Insurance, a company under China Re Group, has fully brought into play its insurance advantages in actively innovating and promoting the new poverty alleviation model, “Continent Defenders Against Returning to Poverty”, in regions including Zhejiang, Hebei, Henan, Jiangxi, Gansu and Qinghai, building solid poverty alleviation “blocking dams” and “firewalls” for poor areas and thus keeping the hard-earned poverty alleviation results. As of the end of May 2020, more than 700,000 people were covered and over RMB6 million had been paid out.

　　In Yiwu of Zhejiang Province, China Continent Insurance, under the organisation of the Yiwu Municipal Government, made a “Continent Defenders Against Returning to Poverty” coverage donation amounting to RMB3 million to Huangjiayuan Village, Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province. Huangjiayuan Village is the village which has the most scattered residences, the most remote location, and the most lagging development in Yingxiu Town. Currently, how to truly lift the village out of poverty, better safeguard and consolidate the poverty alleviation achievements and prevent the poverty-stricken people from returning to poverty have become the key issues that need to be resolved urgently. In response to the actual situation of Huangjiayuan Village, Zhejiang Yiwu Branch of China Continent Insurance, taking advantage of its principal insurance business, provided Huangjiayuan Village in Yingxiu Town with a one-year “Continent Defenders Against Returning to Poverty” protection.

　　In Huaiyang of Henan Province, China Continent Insurance and Huaiyang County Government joined hands to help poverty-stricken areas. In four townships namely Liuzhentun Township, Xinzhan Town, Zhuji Township, and Chengguan Huizu Town, targeting four types of people, that is, households that are currently on the register of the Township Poverty Alleviation Office, households that have been monitored for poverty alleviation over the years, marginal households among non-poor households, and unstable households that have been lifted out of poverty in 2019, and starting with the three major poverty-prone factors which are healthcare, housing, and family income, thousands of poor households were provided with three types of “Continent Defenders Against Returning to Poverty” protection against poverty due to disasters, illnesses and accidents, effectively helping them out with risk protection amounting to as high as RMB40 million.

　　In Jingning of Gansu Province, with the strong support of CIC, China Galaxy Securities, and China Re Group, China Continent Insurance successfully signed the “Continent Defenders Against Returning to Poverty” project with the People’s Government of Jingning County, Gansu Province, and China Galaxy Securities, to provide more than RMB10 billion of insurance protection to 20,000 poverty-stricken population in the county, fully demonstrating the mission and responsibility of a state-owned enterprise.

　　In Huining of Gansu Province, China Continent Insurance implemented “Anti-Poverty-Recurrence” insurance and poverty alleviation projects for close to 210,000 poor and marginal households in 28 townships including Dingjiagou Town to ensure that poor households are being lifted out of poverty in a stable manner and to prevent them from returning to poverty.

　　In Xunhua Salar Autonomous County of Qinghai Province, since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, China Continent Insurance has in the first place developed the Covid-19 liability insurance protection against Returning to poverty, conducting data tracking for poor households, marginally poor households, households enjoying the “five guarantees”, households enjoying the minimum living guarantee, people with disabilities and people engaging in the hand-pulled noodle business, totaling close to 50,000 people in Xunhua County, and providing them with additional free-of-charge Covid-19 death liability insurance, as well as disability liability, medical liability and lost income insurance protection cumulatively amounting to more than RMB10 billion.

　　In Jiangxi Province, China Continent Insurance has successively provided nearly RMB1.2 billion of risk protection against returning to poverty for more than 400,000 poor households in regions including Jiujiang, Yingtan, Jingdezhen, Fuzhou, Pingxiang and Xinyu, adding a secured and effective line of protection for poverty-stricken households.

　　In Xiangyuan of Shanxi Province, China Continent Insurance successfully signed the poverty prevention and relief liability insurance plan with Changzhi Poverty Alleviation Office to provide insurance protection for filed poverty-stricken households and marginally poor households throughout Xiangyuan County to prevent them from returning to poverty. The insurance protection amounts to RMB3 million, covering close to 10,000 people.

　　In Hexian County of Anhui Province, China Continent Insurance actively provided poverty prevention and relief liability insurance for more than 3,000 impoverished people who have been filed in the local poverty alleviation office, providing protection to prevent them from returning to poverty.

　　It has been highlighted in this year’s government work report that “in 2020, there is the need to ensure the completion of the decisive battle on overcoming poverty for the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.” According to the actual circumstances, China Continent Insurance will further innovate its poverty alleviation work ideas and promote “Continent Defenders Against Returning to Poverty” nationwide to provide a strong guarantee for the establishment of a long-term mechanism for stable poverty alleviation so that the impoverished groups can feel the “warmth of insurance”, and that the people’s longing for a better life can be continuously satisfied with high-quality products and services, devoting “insurance strengths” for the fight against poverty.
